These moves make him play differently than your typical Tekken character. As game previews have shown, he makes his appearance out of a request from Kazumi, causing him to interject himself in the Heihachi and Kazuya conflict.Īkuma actually retains popular moves such as his dragon punch, fireball, hurricane kick and Raging Demon super, which are actually done via their traditional inputs. One amusing note is how Tekken 7 makes Street Fighter’s Akuma - who looks like a demonic Casey Neistat in this game - canon in the Mishima narrative. As such, their story is the most compelling of all, although parts of it admittedly feel rushed and all over the place at times.
This one incident proves to be the turning point in Heihachi’s and Kazuya’s story, leading both to the miserable path they now share in the present.Īlthough other characters get story tidbits as well, Tekken 7 is clearly the tale of the two Mishima figureheads and the impact that the demon gene had on their family. I actually couldn’t help but go “aAs with all family dramas, however, something happens along the way that foments trouble. This time around, the big reveal comes in the form of Kazumi Mishima, wife to Heihachi and mother to Kazuya. With each entry into the series, however, a little bit of that Mishima background gets doled out and you start to see a method to all this madness. Then again, Tekken 7 tries to shed more light on the reasons behind the all-around douchebaggery exhibited by these two via a fleshed-out story mode called “The Mishima Blood Saga.” Early Tekken games made you feel like both were simply insufferable jerks who exhibited that crazy Mishima behavior born from tough love and a propensity to use people and family members as pawns in a long-standing power play (the kind and honorable Jinpachi being an exception, of course). By the way, when I say reaching great heights, I don’t just mean social standing but an actual high place from which they can unceremoniously throw the other guy from. I mean, seriously, this father-son pair seems to have a pretty unhealthy obsession with volcanoes and cliffs as well as reaching great heights. The saga of the most well-adjusted family in fighting game history reaches its purported climax as Heihachi and Kazuya Mishima face off for one final showdown in Tekken 7.
